Happy Holiday's

As I have not kept up with my blog I realized that we are in the holiday season and haven't posted in a while. Yes I have been busy but can I use it as an excuse? No! I'm committed to changing my life and to do so you have to be committed and consistent to get where you want to go. It is something you can't fake, or glide by. It's when you have reached your limit, when you think you have had enough that you need to dig deep and push forward. This also includes my blog.  So I do have some updates but I will keep them for a new post next year. Until then, Happy Hoilday's!!!

Vacation Was Fun :)

Had a great time on the beach during my vacation week.  I turned off all email and messaging services and relaxed with no worries of work or responsibility. But all good things must come to an end. I'm excited, thrilled and refreshed to get back into the grind I love....IT! I'm also back in full study mode and the next certificate is right around the corner. I'll see you in a bit. Cheers

It's been A long Time.....

Well, not to long. I been working hard and studying a few things. And as minor as they maybe in my field of work. It's about the process and the journey. I earned 2 out of 3 certifications Armanino LLP offers. I'll have the 3rd one soon but wanted to share anyway. I'll have a lot more entries on my blog once mid-July comes around. See you soon!

Everyday 3am

Is when I get most of my study time done. The world is still sleeping and I'm able to give 100% to studying without the world interfering with my long term goals. I'll get into more details as I continue to get comfortable with my new hours as it is tough wakening up this early however, it has already shown that it's worth it.

TrueNAS Scale Build

So instead of buying a NAS (Network Attached Storage), I decide to convert my old system and build my own. With 64 gigabytes of ram, a Radeon RX4800 (I know.... "Overkill"), and Intel Xeon E5-2697 v3 14-Core @2.60GHz already on hand the only thing I needed to purchase was a network card and the most important item in the NAS, the storage.  I started out purchasing six 8 terabyte helium (quiet and heat resistant) hard drives, a 10 gigabit network card, and added some other accessories I needed to complete the upgrade. Afterward, I went ahead and downloaded the TrueNAS  ISO from there website, installed it on a USB stick using Rufus and ran the installer on the built server and voila, I have a working TrueNAS Scale server.  Now that it is running and seems stable after 24 hours of stress test, it's time to set up the storge usability and applications that I will be using on it. Like building virtual machines and using docker containers. Maybe setup my an LDAP and creat...

Peace Be The Journey

A long journey starts with one step, and so my journey begins. On this blog I will be sharing how I started this journey of entering the cyber security field and earning my PhD during that process. While doing this I have other mini goals I would like to accomplish as well. For example, losing 50 lbs. so I can get off these medications I am on, to learning Japanese and Spanish fluently. As I start writing this blog I will share what I have learned from my studies and tinkering, And of course I need a day off every once in a while so why not some video's of me trying to be elite in videogames or just playing with some new tech. So stay tune and watch this space. Cheers!
